I’m really looking forward to playing in France next week. I’m lucky to have some great musicians joining me to play a mixture of some nostalgia tunes , some bits from a new project called skeletons and some other songs we like. The band will feature the rhythm section of John Blease, Ross Stanley, Riaan Vosloo and myself and the horns of Alex Bonney & James Allsopp. We will be joined by Lizzy Parks.
First stop is Dijon, then Vienne at www.jazzavienne.com and finally on Thursday we’re at What the Funk in Paris. Hopefully see you there.
I’ve just uploaded a short mix of vocal jazz over at the impossible ark website. I started working on the Ark back in 2006, but I’m afraid we haven’t done any records for a while. Anyway I’m pleased to say that now we’re back up and there are lots of records in the pipeline including Jeb Loy Nichols and something called the Skeleton I’ve put togther in my spare time. There’s also a compilation looking back over some of the older tunes. These new records are going to be releases in the Autumn this year so in the meantime on the Ark website there are the old releases to listen to in full on the discography pages and some mixes by the artists and friends of the lable.
My mix Many Voices is all vocal jazz tunes and includes songs by some of my absolute favorites… Mingus, Leon Thomas etc. This is the music that inspires me to stay creative, music that is so full of life if makes me want to keep on trying to find out what I’ve got to offer.
